India is currently locking horns with Sri Lanka in the first T20I at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The hosts have lost the toss and were put to bat first. However, a blistering start they lost wickets in quick succession and were reduced to 38/3. It was a good opportunity for Sanju Samson to assert his authority.
But he failed to make most of the opportunity as he was dismissed for just 5 runs in the first game. Samson first tried to take Dhananjaya de Silva to cleaners on the third ball of his innings but he lucky as his catch was dropped. However, he on the fifth ball again tried to smash for six. He went for a big leg-side hoick to a delivery on off-stump and got a toe-end and off the leading-edge that lobbed to short third man. He managed just 6 runs in 5 balls.
Sanju Samson, notably, found himself in the playing XI after a while. The keeper batter hasn’t been given a consistent run in the team due to a lack of space in the Indian side. However, he kept performing domestic circuit, IPL and the limited opportunities in the national side. He didn’t get a chance in the T20I series against New Zealand. But he found himself in the T20I side for the Sri Lanka series. The remaining two games will be extremely crucial for him as it will be a golden opportunity for him to stake his claim.
