“Make poster boy Pat Cummins next test captain,” Shane Warne passes his verdict on Australia’s captaincy debate

The Australian legend Shane Warne is of the opinion that appointing Pat Cummins as the next test captain should be a no-brainer for cricket Australia after Tim Paine recently announced his resignation from the post.

According to Shane Warne, he had thoughts of Cummins being given the leadership role even before paine’s resignation because the fast bowler is one of the most respected cricketers in the game at the moment, has performed all around the world and is the “poster boy” of Australian cricket.

Warne also thinks that Pat Cummins is at a perfect age as well where he can take up the leadership role and take the Australian test team forward for a few years.

“The poster boy, respected and loved the world over, Pat Cummins should now be named captain,” Shane Warne wrote in his column in Daily Telegraph.

Shane Warne also wants Tim Paine to be dropped from the Test squad altogether

Warne doesn’t want Tim Paine to be picked in the Test squad for the Ashes at all when he has left the captaincy of the team. The 52-year-old, who is now a renowned television pundit, thinks that Matthew Wade, who recently played some remarkable innings for Australia in the T20 World Cup 2021, Alex Carey and Josh Inglis should be considered ahead of Tim Paine for the wicketkeeper’s slot.

Warne is specifically interested in Inglis as he had a great domestic season with the bat last summer in the Sheffield Shield, and he is a young man too.

While Cricket Australia has accepted the resignation of Paine as a captain, they have not dropped any hints that they are planning to drop the outgoing skipper from the test squad altogether. The veteran right-hander might still be picked to keep wickets for the Kangaroos in the Brisbane test match, although there have been massive question marks over his batting form in the last couple of years.
