Punjab Kings have signed Nathan Ellis as one of the replacements for the Australian duo of Jhye Richardson and Riley Meredith, both of whom have been ruled out of the UAE segment of IPL 2021. There were rumours that an unnamed team had signed Nathan Ellis for IPL 2021, and it has been confirmed by Cricbuzz that the franchise is Punjab Kings. In this article, we talk about two things you might not know about Nathan Ellis.
Nathan Ellis is the first player to take a hat-trick on their T20I debut
The fast bowler, who represents Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, recently made his T20I debut for Australia. The five-time World champions were touring Bangladesh and embarrassed their fans with a lacklustre performance. However, Ellis was one of the positives for the nation from the tournament.
The right-arm pacer picked a hat-trick on his T20I debut, thereby becoming the first player in the history of the format to achieve the feat. The player’s hat-trick included the wickets of Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman. He also became the third Aussie to take a T20I hat-trick, after Brett Lee and Ashton Agar.
The player was unsold in the 2021 IPL Auction
One of the other things you might not know about Nathan Ellis is that he was unsold in the 2021 IPL Auction. He took 20 wickets in the previous BBL. Hence, there were rumours that a few teams had their eyes on signing Nathan Ellis for IPL 2021. However, the player remained unsold at the auction. Nevertheless, he has now got an opportunity to take part in the competition.
Meanwhile, Nathan will also be part of Australia’s contingent for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The tournament will take place in the UAE and Oman at the end of this year. He will be one of the injury covers for the main team.
