India suffered a disappointing 1-wicket defeat in the first ODI against Bangladesh.

Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik highlighted the reason behind India’s loss in the first ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka. He feels that skipper Rohit Sharma will be disappointed with the way his side fielded and also will be addressing his batters ahead of the second game.

Rohit Sharma would be disappointed with the fielding – Dinesh Karthik

The first ODI between Bangladesh and India went down the wire and it saw both the teams fighting till the very end but it was the hosts who held their nerves better and clinched the match by 1 wicket to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Asked to bat first, it was a batting performance by India as they managed only 186 runs on the board. Only KL Rahul was the lone warrior for his side as he scored 73 runs and powered his team to a competitive total.

While many thought that it’ll be an easy victory for Bangladesh, Indian bowlers made sure that they make life difficult for the host’s batters. After a staggering opening spell by the pacers, spinners kept things tight and a combined bowling effort saw the hosts tottering at 136/9.

However, after that, India looked sloppy in the field as first KL Rahul dropped Mehidy Hassan and then Washington Sundar didn’t attempt a catch and also gave away two easy boundaries while fielding.

The dropped chances and sloppy fielding cost India as Mehidy Hasan then played one of his best knocks and remained unbeaten on 37 runs to take his side home and win the game by 1 wicket.

Dinesh Karthik feels that skipper Rohit Sharma will be disappointed with the fielding effort as you cannot afford to miss clutch moments. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said.

“He must be crediting the bowlers. He knows they brought them back in the game. In many ways they delivered for the first 40 overs, that is the 80 per cent of the bowling. He would be disappointed with the fielding. You would expect more from the fielders. In those clutch moments you want those half chances taken and don’t want to give away easy boundaries.”

“He will definitely have a word with the batters,” Dinesh Karthik on Rohit Sharma addressing Indian batters ahead of the second ODI

It’s fair to say that Indian batting was the biggest disappointment in the first ODI against Bangladesh. They struggled on the turning track and failed to get going.

Following their struggle in the first game, Karthik feels that skipper Rohit will address the batters and will talk to them about how to approach the game. He said:

“He will definitely have a word with the batters, tell them that I know it’s one blip but we are going to experience these wickets in the next couple of games as well. So let us figure out. Let us not think about 300-320, be realistic about what we can get and bat towards that as the goal. Two practice sessions won’t change you too much as a player.”

The second game between Bangladesh and India will be played on Wednesday (7th December) at the same venue. It’ll be do or die game for the visitors and it is expected that they will stage a comeback.
