Indian batter Virat Kohli has lavished rich praise on his fellow teammate Shubman Gill after his double century. He said that it was a privilege to see the young batter bat as he yet again proved why people rate him so high.
Shubman Gill becomes the youngest-ever batter to score a double century in ODIs
“From Sachin Tendulkar to Virat Kohli to Shubman Gill” has been the root thing that has been going through ever since Gill got his feet going in the ODIs. The young batter has started his career in a high note and it’s fair to say that future of Indian cricket is in safe hands.
However, he took his game to another level in the first ODI against New Zealand as he produced yet another staggering knock in the 50-over format. But this time around he went a step forward and etched his name in the record books and helped his team post a gigantic total on the board.
India kept losing wickets at regular intervals but Gill oozed his class as he bailed his side out of trouble and smashed a century after his team lost early wickets. His innings were full of class as he provided control to the batting line and made sure that he steadied the innings.
Gill looked settled right from ball 1 and exhibited sensational stroke play, which saw him hitting Kiwi bowlers all over the park. He held one end while wickets kept tumbling at the other. But he was left unfazed by things happening on the other end.
Gill batted with a strike rate of over 100 and crafted his innings staggeringly well. He dominated the New Zealand attack and smashed his 3rd ODI ton in just 87 balls. This was his second consecutive ODI ton as he scored a century in the last game against Sri Lanka.
However, he didn’t just stop there as after scoring a century, he unleashed himself and took New Zealand placers to the cleaners. As it turned around, he smashed a sensational double century in just 145 balls. He smashed three consecutive sixes to achieve the milestone. Gill batted for 149 balls and smashed 208 runs with the help of 19 fours and 9 sixes.
Gill’s double century not only saw him becoming the fifth Indian to smash a double century in the 50-over format, but he also broke the number of records as well. The first record he broke was he became the second fastest batter to complete 1000 runs in ODIs. The batter achieved the feat in 18 innings. Not only this, he became the youngest ever to smash the double century as he achieved the feat in 23 years. He also became the 2nd fastest Indian to score 3 ODI centuries.
“He proved again why people rate him so highly,” Virat Kohli lavishes rich praise on Shubman Gill after his double century
Gill’s double century saw many fans and pundits applauding him and hailing him as a future star. However, special praise came for him from his idol Virat Kohli, who said that it was a privilege to see him bat. Speaking to BCCI, he said:
“It was a privilege to see Gill bat, he was outstanding especially 2nd best is not even 40, he proved again why people rate him so highly”.
