Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul has done an excellent job for the team in IPL 2022. Playing his first season as the LSG skipper, Rahul has already registered two centuries in just eight matches. He became the first player to score a century for Lucknow in IPL earlier this month, while earlier tonight, he became the first LSG player to record twin hundreds.
Playing against five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, the Lucknow-based franchise received an invitation to bat first from the Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma. MI are playing their first game at Wankhede Stadium this season, a venue where they have been very successful in the past.
However, the MI bowlers could not dismiss KL Rahul today. For the third time in his IPL career, the right-handed batter finished with a triple digit score in a match against the Mumbai Indians. Rahul scored 103 runs off just 62 balls, smashing 12 fours and four sixes.
He opened the innings for the Lucknow Super Giants and remained in the middle till the end of the innings. Rahul had an important partnership of 58 runs for the second wicket with Manish Pandey. While none of the other LSG batters could have a big partnership with Rahul, he held one end and guided LSG to 168/6 in their 20 overs.
Kieron Pollard was the pick of the bowlers for the Mumbai Indians. The Caribbean all-rounder returned with figures of 2/8 in his two overs. Speaking with the host broadcasters after the first innings, Pollard said:
“Haven’t bowled in the last couple of games. We did well to restrict them to 168. Hopefully we can get that. It was holding a bit in the first ten (overs) maybe, but it was coming on better in the back ten. We played plenty of cricket here, we should look to use the dimensions of the ground.”

About time KL Rahul is counted amongst the best IPL players of all time. The highest average (an incredible 48.54) of those with over a 100 games with David Warner the only other batter in that list with an average over 40 #IPL2022
