The 26th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is currently underway, with the Mumbai Indians taking on the Lucknow Super Giants in an afternoon match at the Brabourne Stadium. LSG received an invitation to bat first from MI captain Rohit Sharma.
The Mumbai Indians would be under enormous pressure right now because they have lost five matches back-to-back in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. They have lost their matches against the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.
Speaking with Danny Morrison at the toss earlier today, MI captain Rohit Sharma said:
“We will bowl first. Since it’s a day game, we’ve got another slower bowler in Fabian Allen. It’s a good pitch to play cricket but his experience will be good for us. Tymal, Brevis, Allen and Polly are the four overseas. It’s just the basics that have been missing in the last five games.”
There was a different tactic used by the MI skipper earlier today in the first innings of the Lucknow Super Giants team. Rohit Sharma has many bowling options today, so he decided to use six of them in the powerplay overs. All six bowlers bowled an over each during the fielding restrictions.

Uncapped Indian player Tilak Verma bowled the first over of the match, followed by left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat. Right-arm leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin came in to bowl the third over, while the team’s best bowler Jasprit Bumrah bowled the fourth over.
The last two overs of the powerplay were bowled by Fabian Allen and Tymal Mills, with Allen managing to take one wicket, the main one of the in-form Quinton de Kock. Here’s how fans on Twitter reacted to MI’s strategy today:
