The inaugural edition of the SAT20 kick-started with a bang as it saw Mumbai Indians Cape Town thumping Paarl Royals by 8 wickets to bag the crucial 2 points along with a bonus point.
Opting to bowl, it was a staggering performance by MI as Jofra Archer, who made a comeback after 18 months, bowled staggeringly well and troubled the PR batters. He bagged three wickets and returned with the figures of 3/27 as his side restricted the opposition to just 142 runs.
Chasing the target, it was Dewald Brevis’ show. The young batter set the stage on fire and batted staggering well. He started slowly as he assessed the conditions well. But once he was set, he took the opposition bowlers to the cleaners.
Brevis batted with a staggering strike rate of 170.73 and smashed 4 fours and 5 sixes in his unbeaten 70-run knock. He was also awarded the Player of the Match for his heroics. Touted as ‘baby AB’, the right-hander looked similar to a South African great and batted like him.
