For the second straight season, MI Cape Town had a forgettable outing in SA20. When the tournament started, MI made a splash, signing some top players. However, not many of them have come to the fore, so far. In this regard, the franchise could choose to leave out a few players before the next campaign. Here, we take a look at three popular stars whom MI Cape Town might release before the next season.
1) Liam Livingstone
Liam Livingstone is one of the popular stars whom MI Cape Town might release before the next season. After he came back from injury, Livingstone has not been able to provide impactful innings. It was the same in the recently concluded SA20, as well.
He had far too many underwhelming outings. As seen in the other teams, it is the local firepower that wins tournaments. Hence, MI could try to invest in some of those cricketers.
2) Kieron Pollard
The West Indian all-rounder was the replacement for Rashid Khan this season. Pollard had a forgettable tournament, both as a captain and as a player. He will surely be released before the next campaign.
While Rashid could come back to lead the side, MI might also look at other options to replace Pollard in the side. There are a lot of talent pools to choose from for the franchise.
3) Sam Curran
Sam Curran could also face the axe at MI Cape Town. In the recent months, Sam Curran has just not been able to do consistently well. Even in IPL 2023, he was expensive with the ball and could hardly do well with the willow.
It could be a good idea for MI to leave out the cricketer. Since he is not giving all-round value, MI might think of signing a foreigner who is specialist in one of the departments.
