Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa feels that Indian keeper batter Sanju Samson deserves a longer rope in the team as he is a high-quality player and should be there in the team for a long time now.
Is Sanju Samson the unluckiest Indian cricketer?
It’s fair to say that Sanju Samson has been one of the most talented cricketers in Indian Cricket. But he hasn’t been given a consistent run in the team due to a lack of space in the Indian side.
But despite getting limited opportunities, he has been performing well. The right-hander has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit, IPL and the limited opportunities in the national side. He did a good job against West Indies and Zimbabwe before playing staggering knocks against a full-strength South African team.
Samson then played only ODI against New Zealand and was benched for the next two games due to team combination before getting rested for Bangladesh ODIs. He then found himself in the T20I side but was dropped from the ODI team for the Sri Lanka series. It was expected that Samson would get a longer rope in the shortest format of the game. But to worsen things more, he got injured and was ruled out of the series followed by a series against New Zealand.
“He is a high-quality player, he has not been given a long opportunity, Robin Uthappa feels Sanju Samson deserves a longer rope in the Indian team
With Samson not getting a long run in the Indian side, Robin Uthappa feels that the keeper batter deserves a longer run in the Indian side as he’s a multidimensional player who can bat anywhere and is also a high quality player.
Speaking to TOI, he said: “Sanju Samson should be given a long rope. He is a high-quality player, he has not been given a long opportunity”.

Samson has now been deemed fit to play and was recently seen practising in nets. With Ishan Kishan not quite living up to the expectations, Samson could well now get a longer rope in the team.
