Former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is regarded by many as one of the greatest batters of all time. However, the right-handed batter has struggled for form in recent times. Since November 2019, he has not scored even one century in any form of cricket, while he had one of his worst IPL seasons this year.
Kohli has looked in good touch, but he has been nowhere near where he was as a batter in the previous decade. Considering his past records in cricket, many members of the cricket universe expect Virat to fire all cylinders in the near future.
During a discussion on Samaa TV, former Pakistan cricket team captain Shahid Afridi shared his views on Virat Kohli’s decline. Here’s what he had to say:
“In cricket, attitude matters the most. Do you have an attitude towards cricket or not? That Kohli, earlier in his career, wanted to be the No. 1 batsman in the world… is he still playing cricket with the same motivation? That is the big question. He has the class. But does he really even want to be No. 1 again?”
Virat Kohli has taken a short break from cricket after IPL 2022
The Indian cricket team is currently playing a five-match T20I series against the South African cricket team at home. The Men in Blue are playing under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant as big names like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested for this series.
Kohli enjoyed the break from cricket with his family. He went for a beachy vacation and shared photos on social media. The right-handed batter is expected to join the Indian Test squad soon as the players will leave for England tomorrow for the seven international matches against the England cricket team scheduled to happen next month.
