Glenn Maxwell withdraws his name from The Hundred

The cricket is slowly starting to gain momentum after the COVID-19 break. The World Test Championship edition of 2019-2021 had just ended, with New Zealand being crowned as the champions. The Indian side will now be having a relaxing break as their series against England will be starting in August.

July month has lots of action for the cricketing fans. Along with the India tour of Sri Lanka, the Hundred will be keeping the fans on their feet. And later, Phase 2 of IPL to be played in September before the T20 World Cup in October will be a treat to watch.

The Hundred is a unique kind of Cricket tournament which will feature eight men’s and women’s team. Many of the female Indian stars will also be participating in the league. However, one surprising news have come ahead of the tournament.

The Australian star Glenn Maxwell has decided to withdraw his name from the league. The travel restrictions and bubble fatigue might be the reason for the same. He would be trying to focus on the IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup as both the tournaments have just two days of gap between them. Keeping himself fit for these two events can be the prime concern.

Warne said on Fox Cricket’s Road To The Ashes podcast, “Unfortunately, Glenn Maxwell has pulled out of The Hundred. We were really excited to get him in the draft. We know he’s a match-winner, and we were excited to have him. We’ve now replaced him with Josh Inglis from Western Australia, so we are lucky to have him.”

Glenn Maxwell had an excellent first half in IPL 2021

The Batsman has also decided not to travel to West Indies for the series. Maxwell had a good phase 1 of IPL 2021 while playing for the RCB side. He was able to justify the enormous price tag which his name carried in the auction. It would be worth watching to see how he performs in IPL 2021 and then in the mega ICC event.
