The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday (26th March) named the annual contracts for the 2022-23 season. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, who was promoted, were the receivers for the Grade A+ (INR 7 crores) contract.
Hardik Pandya, Akshar Patel, R Ashwin, Mohammad Shami and Rishabh Pant were handed the Grade A (INR 5 crores). Whereas Cheteshwar Pujara, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill and Mohammad Siraj were given Grade B (INR 3 crores) contracts.
There were few new additions in Grade C (INR 1 crore) in Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, KS Bharat, Ishan Kishan and Deepak Hooda whereas Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav retained their place while there was a demotion for Shikhar Dhawan.
One of the notable names that made it into the annual contracts list was none other than Sanju Samson. The keeper batter returned to the central contract after 8 long years. The right-hander of late has performed quite well in the limited opportunities he has got and has been scorings runs in the domestic circuit as well.
Since 2022, Samson averages 36.8 along with a 154.62 strike rate in the T20Is whereas, in ODIs, the keeper batter averages 71 to go with a 105.58 strike rate. He will be next seen in action during the IPL 2023. He will captain Rajasthan Royals in the league and the tournament will be extremely important for him considering his place in the Indian side.
