David Warner seems to be out of favour at SRH. There could be a new challenge for Warner knocking at the door. He has been recently sacked off his role as captain. “The team management has also decided that they will be changing the overseas combination for tomorrow’s match against Rajasthan Royals,” said SRH in a statement. Eventually, Warner was left out of the game as SRH lost just another game.
The Australian opener has been a revolution in the cricket mentality in the city of Hyderabad. The fans are certainly not happy about his sack. Under David Warner’s captaincy, the SRH franchise won its maiden and only IPL Trophy in 2016. Moreover, in his four seasons as SRH captain, Warner missed out on the playoffs only once. With uncertainty around Warner’s role in the side, we look at new challenges, should he get released at the end of the season.
#1 Punjab Kings
With Gayle turning 42 this September and firepower lacking up-top, Warner could be the perfect fit for the Punjab Outfit. The franchise also needs an experienced captain, as KL Rahul is making some weird decisions (Not giving a chance to Dawid Malan, not using Chris Gayle as an opener). The addition of Warner will do them a world of good. With Warner, Rahul, Malan, and Mayank, the batting line-up already seems explosive on paper. With the experience of Warner into the mix, they could soon find their hands on their maiden title. This would certainly be a new challenge for Warner.
#2 Kolkatta Knight Riders
Shubman Gill has not been able to provide KKR with a solid start in even one innings so far this season. This asks questions about his contribution to the team. Moreover, Nitish Rana and Rahul Tripathi are not able to anchor the innings consistently. Warner securing a move to KKR will release some pressure off the young shoulders, and the experienced campaigners like Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik. Also, the fact that KKR has that winning pedigree, will be a win-win situation for both the player and the franchise.
#3 Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals has been a franchise with no stability of their personnel. They could build a solid team around David Warner. This would be a new challenge for Warner and the Rajasthan Royals. An inexperienced captain in Sanju Samson is not proving to be good for the team. Samson would get the perfect experience, with the Australian opener in the mix. Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, and David Warner would be a dream foreign contingent for the franchise. Yashasvi Jaiswal, David Warner, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and Ben Stokes could form the batting core for the Royals, come next season. Thus, a David Warner transfer to Rajasthan Royals could be one to look for, if he parts ways with his current team.
#4 Delhi Capitals
Even though Delhi Capitals‘ openers have been on a dream run this season, adding Warner to this team will be of great utility. Shreyas Iyer, who plays at number 3, will be back from injury for next season. With Rishabh Pant at number 4, Delhi Capitals could provide one slot to an overseas batter. Moreover, Warner and Shikhar Dhawan have had some chemistry in the past. The foreign core for next season could be Kagiso Rabada, Chris Woakes, Anrich Nortje, and David Warner.
