Five potential candidates who could be India’s head coach

Ravi Shastri who is India’s head coach is always a talking point for the media. There are mixed feelings about him in the media. Some people think he is not the right man, whereas others think that he is doing a brilliant job. Ravi Shastri’s tenure was supposed to end after both the T20 World Cups in 2021. But one of the T20 World Cups got postponed in 2022 and so India’s head coach’s tenure will end after this T20 World Cup.

India’s head coach – Ravi Shastri has done a good job as India won two-Test series in Australia, didn’t lose a single Test series at home, reached the Final of the World Test Championship and the semi-final of the World Cup. India would have liked to win at least one ICC trophy, but they still have an opportunity in October-November. It would be great if Ravi Shastri could help this team win a Test series in England and then the T20 World Cup. But there are already some murmurs about who should be India’s next head coach. So, let us have a look at five potential candidates to be India’s head coach.

5. Trevor Bayliss

This might be an off-field choice, but it could be an effective one. Trevor Bayliss who is currently the head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise can be a potential candidate to be India’s head coach. He has excellent credentials with many teams, and he is one of those guys who stays at the back while the captain runs the show.

England famously won the World Cup when Trevor Bayliss was the head coach. He transformed the England white-ball team to the best in the world. He was the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL when they won the trophy. If Bayliss applies for the position, he might be the dark horse to get the position.

4. Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag has previously applied for the position of India’s head coach. He had applied in 2017 after the resignation of Anil Kumble, but at that time Ravi Shastri was chosen as India’s head coach. Sehwag has always been an out-of-the-box thinker, and he can bring something new to the Indian team.

He previously coached the Kings XI Punjab, even though it didn’t go as planned as they couldn’t qualify for the playoffs. If Sehwag applies again for the job, then he might end up getting the role.

3. Mike Hesson

Mike Hesson, currently the Director of Royal Challengers Bangalore, applied for the position when it was last up for grabs. He was pretty close to getting the job, but in the end, Ravi Shastri was reappointed as the head coach.

Hesson has coached the New Zealand cricket team and had done a great job with them. Even at RCB, he has been brilliant as they made the playoffs in 2020 and looked all set to qualify once again in 2021. Kohli knows Hesson’s style, and so he is a potential candidate for the job.

2. Ravi Shastri

It wouldn’t be surprising at all if Ravi Shastri is reappointed as the head coach of team India. There is great understanding between Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri and if Kohli is going to be the captain for another couple of years then Shastri’s tenure might be extended.

It all depends on if Ravi Shastri is willing to continue, as he had once said that he is also missing the commentary box and is looking forward to making a comeback there. So, if Shastri is unwilling to continue, we might see another guy in place of the current head coach.

1. Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid has been appointed as India’s head coach for the Sri Lanka tour. Even though this is a temporary arrangement, nobody will mind if Dravid becomes the permanent head coach of India. Rahul Dravid has done a great job with the U19 and India A team.

He is a great coach and all the players will benefit from his knowledge and expertise, especially on overseas tours. It would be great to see Rahul Dravid coach India, and he will be the frontrunner if he applies for the job.
