Five Players SRH should release during IPL 2021 trade window

Many people don’t talk about Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), but it is one of the most consistent teams of the IPL. They won the trophy in IPL 2016 and have made the playoffs every single time in the last five seasons. Last year it seemed as if they won’t make the playoffs, but they won their last three games and made it to the playoffs.

Even though they made the playoffs in the last season there is a lot of scope for that team to improve. They found some new players in T Natarajan and Abdul Samad but some main players didn’t perform well. SRH would like to keep their core the same for the next season, but they will also look to make some changes in their squad. So, let’s have a look at the five players SRH should release during IPL 2021 trade window.

5. Fabian Allen

Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Fabian Allen in the last year’s auction at his base price, but he didn’t get to play a single game in the last season. SRH had a problem of plenty when it came to overseas players and so it was difficult for Allen to find a place in the XI.

SRH could release him in the trade window and see if they can get in an experienced overseas player who can make a strong case for getting a place in the XI. If they want an overseas all-rounder then they can think of a player like Moeen Ali who is with RCB and can fit the role of an overseas all-rounder.

4. Billy Stanlake

The overseas fast bowler has pace and bounce and can make life difficult for any batsman. Just like Allen, Stanlake has found it difficult to get in the XI. Stanlake has the potential, but he isn’t an exceptional T20 bowler. SRH could release Stanlake can look for another overseas fast bowler.

They could look at a pacer like Anrich Nortje or Lockie Ferguson if the respective teams are willing to trade these players for Billy Stanlake. Both these fast bowlers have proved themselves in the IPL and can come in handy with their extra pace.

3. Siddarth Kaul

Siddarth Kaul had a great IPL in 2018 and 2019 but for some reason, he wasn’t part of the XI from the start of the tournament. Kaul got only one game at Sharjah where he got hammered and after that wasn’t picked in the whole tournament. SRH has found a great pacer in T Natarajan and with Bhuvneshwar Kumar getting fit, Kaul won’t be a certain pick.

SRH can release Kaul and get in an Indian spinner as they don’t have many in their squad. They can try and get a young leg-spinner like Mayank Markande or an off-spinner Jayant Yadav.

2. Basil Thampi

Another Indian pacer who doesn’t get a look in the SRH team. He did have a few good games in the 2018 season but after that hasn’t really done anything special. Just like Kaul, SRH could release Thampi and get in either a different pacer or go with a spinner.

Ishan Porel from KXIP could be a good option as he swings the ball and is doing well in the domestic circuit. SRH might think of this trade during the trade window of IPL 2021.

1. Mohammad Nabi

Mohammad Nabi played only one game in the last season and with SRH’s overseas strength it seems highly unlikely that it will change in the next season. SRH would be better off releasing Mohammad Nabi and find a different overseas player who can play a different role.

They can think of an overseas seam bowling all-rounder like Tom Curran or James Neesham if the respective franchises are willing to make the trade. It would be interesting to see whether SRH release Nabi in the IPL 2021 trade window.
