Five IPL Superstars who have never won the IPL Trophy

This is the 13th Season of the IPL and over 500 cricketers from all around the world have participated in the biggest T20 league so far. There is no doubt that almost every cricketer wants to be part of this league. The IPL is one tournament where you get the best Indian players teaming up with the best international players.

Everybody who dreams doesn’t get a chance to be a part of the Indian Premier League. You have to be a good enough player to be a part of the league and win it. Having said that, there a few big-ticket players who haven’t managed to hold the IPL trophy even once. There are some superstars who have never won the IPL trophy. So, let’s have a look at five such players.

5. Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra is the most underrated bowler in the history of the IPL. He is second on the list of all-time leading wicket-takers in the IPL. He has picked up 160 wickets in 150 matches and is the highest wicket-taker among Indians. He has delivered more often than not whatever the team has asked of him. The veteran leg-spinner has played for 3 teams but hasn’t managed to win the trophy even once.

In the 13th season as well, he is one of the top leg-spinners on show. He was playing for Delhi Capitals in this season before he got injured. With age not on his side, he will be hoping that he can win one trophy before he plays the IPL for the last time.

4. Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan has been a part of the IPL since 2017 but in just three years he has become an IPL superstar. He is currently the best leg-spinner in the shortest format and he has time and again shown that in the IPL. Rashid Khan has won a lot of games for his team SRH but unfortunately, they haven’t won a trophy in his presence.

The closest they came was in 2018 when Shane Watson single-handedly demolished them in the IPL Final. SRH is not in a good position but Rashid Khan will be hoping that he turns things around and win his first IPL trophy.

3. AB De Villiers

Many experts have said this time and again that AB De Villiers is just a genius with the bat in hand. ABD can do things that other batsmen can’t even dream of. He is an absolute superstar, especially in the IPL. He has been loved so much in India that people started chanting “ABD ABD” when he came out to bat for South Africa against India.

But the fact is that even he hasn’t won a single IPL trophy. He was with the Delhi Capitals till 2010 and then moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore but both the teams haven’t won the trophy. The closest he came was in 2011 and 2016, but on both occasions, RCB lost the final. He has been in scintillating form this year and he will be hoping that he can take his team all the way.

2. Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle who is also known as the universe boss is arguably the best T20 batsman to have ever played the game but even this superstar hasn’t won the IPL trophy. He started his IPL career with KKR and moved to RCB in 2011 where he dominated the tournament for the next 3-4 years. He was demolishing the bowlers from all the teams and he was just at a different level.

His incredible batting was the main reason they reached the finals in 2011 but unfortunately, he couldn’t deliver in the Final. In 2016, he played a cracking knock in the Final but the team let him down as they lost by 8 runs. He is currently with the Kings XI Punjab and it looks really difficult for them to win the trophy this year.

1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli who is the leading run-scorer of the IPL is not only the biggest superstar in the IPL but also in world cricket. He is the only player to have played all the 13 seasons for one single franchise – RCB. He has been with them throughout their journey and just as RCB hasn’t won a trophy, so hasn’t Virat Kohli.

He scored a record-breaking 973 runs in the 2016 season but RCB fell short by 8 runs in the final against SRH. It has been a story of so near yet so far for RCB on three occasions. Having said that, they are in a good position at the moment, and they have an excellent chance of going all the way in IPL 2020.
