The England Test Cricket is in need of a revival at the moment. In line with this, Rob Key was recently appointed as the new Managing Director of England’s Men’s Team. Now, the former cricketer has already set his sights on making a few appointments. As per various reports, England Cricket is likely to target Ricky Ponting as Head Coach after the disaster run in Test Cricket.
England Cricket likely to target Ricky Ponting as Head Coach
Ricky Ponting is one of the best cricketing minds in the game right now. A serial trophy winner as a skipper, Ponting has already left an impression as a coach. He won the title in 2013 with Mumbai Indians and in recent years, Ponting has made Delhi Capitals into a top-performing franchise. While that is in T20 cricket, very few doubt his capability in Tests.
Apart from his tactical strengths, Ponting’s attitude and philosophy of the game are something that could be useful for the England Team. Hence, Rob Key is reportedly targeting the Aussie to take over as the Head Coach of the Team. If he does pull it off, it will be exciting times for the England cricket fans in the coming months.
A new era for Team England
A couple of days ago, Joe Root stepped down as the skipper for the England Test Team. He was the captain of the team that lost the Ashes, the series in the West Indies and the five-match tournament against India which they are trailing. Hence, this move was on the cards.
A new captain will be announced soon and many fans feel that Ben Stokes is the right man to take the team forward. The team is also likely to get a new coach. Paul Collingwood is at the helm right now but that could change based on Rob Key’s decision. Hence, England will begin its new era within the next few months.
