A surprise captaincy option for the WTC Final
Rohit Sharma has had a difficult injury record in recent times. He has missed quite a few games and India would be desperate to not have that repeat in the next few months. Especially in the WTC Finals, Rohit would be needed both as a batter and as a skipper. However, Ravi Shastri had an alternative captaincy choice if Rohit misses the game due to an injury. He felt that Virat Kohli must lead the team for one last time if Rohit is not available.
Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Ravi said, “If it’s for a major game like that, I want Rohit to be fit, he is the captain. But god forbid something happens under unforeseen circumstances, definitely, I’ll look in that direction.”

India would need Rohit Sharma to fire
Meanwhile, a lot would be placed on Rohit Sharma’s shoulders for the finals of the World Test Championship. The last time around when India visited England, Rohit was India’s best batter. However, Rohit has been in poor touch recently. Even in IPL, he is not doing great. In this context, the management would need the player to regain his touch before the finals of the Championship.
India also has quite a few issues in the batting order. Shubman Gill has not played a lot in England before while KL Rahul is in poor form. Ajinkya Rahane is making a comeback while Pujara and Kohli have been inconsistent recently. Pant is absent and his replacement KS Bharat is new to English conditions.
