Dale Steyn Predicts Which Ex-RCB Player Can Become Next RCB Captain

The Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise needs to make a big decision soon. Their current captain Virat Kohli has made up his mind that he will not continue as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team after the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. Many fans feel either Devdutt Padikkal or AB de Villiers can take over the reins of the team from Kohli. However, former RCB star Dale Steyn believes the franchise will target a former player as a captaincy candidate.

Virat Kohli has been the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for quite some time now. Having made his IPL captaincy debut in 2011, Kohli has captained RCB in over 100 games. However, he has not been able to win the trophy as skipper so far. In 2016, the team reached the final under his leadership. They came very close to winning the trophy, but lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the summit clash.

I just have a feeling KL Rahul is going to return to Bangalore in next year’s auction: Dale Steyn

Former South African cricket team fast bowler Dale Steyn recently appeared on a ESPNCricinfo show, where he opined that the Royal Challengers Bangalore could go after their former wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul and assign him the team’s reins. Here’s what Dale had to say:

“If RCB are going to look at a long-term contender as captain, they should be looking within their own borders. The name I’ve got is an ex-Bangalore player. It’s KL Rahul. I just have a feeling he is going to return to Bangalore in next year’s auction,” Steyn told ESPNCricinfo.

Will Punjab Kings release KL Rahul?

While RCB can certainly target KL Rahul at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction if he is available, the question is will the Punjab Kings release him. So far, Rahul has done a phenomenal job for the Kings in the Indian Premier League. He won the Orange Cap last year and is in the Top 2 of the IPL 2021 Orange Cap leaderboard right now as well.

Although the team has not done well under his captaincy, Rahul is most likely to be retained because of his brilliant individual performances.
