Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra has given his take on the teams which can bid for English all-rounder Sam Curran in the IPL 2023 auction. He feels that he might even be sold for 16-18 crore and either Punjab Kings (PBKS) or Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will go for him.
“I believe he could be a ‘King’ by going to either PBKS or CSK,” Aakash Chopra on Sam Curran
The much anticipated IPL 2023 auction is just a day away from now. The event will take place in Kochi on Friday (23rd December). One of the big names that will go under will be English all-rounder Sam Curran.
The southpaw missed the last season due to injury and has set himself a base price of INR 2 crore. It is likely that every team would want Curran in the mix because of his ability with both bat as well as the ball.
" My dream is to Play in Chennai in front of the CSK fans. Hopefully I will play one day for CSK in Chennai "

Curran has played three seasons in the IPL and he has been staggering in both of them. The left-hander has played 32 games in the tournament, he has scored 337 runs to go with the highest score of 55*. With the ball, he has been exceptional as well as he has taken 32 wickets to go with the BBI of 4/11.
Curran was the best bowler of England in the T20 World Cup 2022 as he took 13 wickets in the tournament and was also awarded Player of the Tournament. Not only in the power play but the southpaw was arguably the best bowler in the deaths.
Based on his performances of late, Aakash Chopra feels Curran will either go to PBKS or CSK because of the franchises have a big purse. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he said:
“Only two teams can realistically bid that high for Sam Curran, and that’s Hyderabad and Punjab. Out of these, Hyderabad doesn’t need him. So I believe he could be a ‘King’ by going to either PBKS or CSK. The chances of him going to Punjab are more because of their huge purse.”
“He might even be sold for 16-18 crore,” Aakash Chopra feels Sam Curran might breach the record of 16.25 crore
Aakash Chopra feels that Sam Curran might get sold for 16-18 crore and breach the record of 16.25 crore, which is held by Chris Morris. He added:
“I think Curran will be the costliest player in the auction. He might even be sold for 16-18 crore. That barrier (a record) of 16.25 crore is likely to be breached. He will be an asset to any team because he will give you four overs and will also be explosive in the lower middle-order, something that you don’t see often these days.”
Sam Curran had earlier played Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings. It remains to be seen will one of his old franchises will pick him or if some new team will fetch him.
