IPL 2023: Mandeep Singh and Rinku Singh of the Kolkata Knight Riders came under fire from former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh after tonight’s loss to the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Mandeep got his chance after sitting out three straight games, but he left the game after scoring 12 (11). While Rinku has played several powerful hits so far this season, he failed to capitalize on a chance to bat for almost 12 overs on Thursday. This resulted in a trip to the locker room with a score of 6 from 7 balls.
The right-handed batter made a mistake in shot selection against Axar Patel, the vice-captain of the Capitals, who is recognized for his pinpoint accuracy with both line and length. Mandeep attempted a ramp but was unable to make touch with the ball before it crashed into the stumps.
IPL 2023: Yuvraj Singh criticized Mandeep Singh and Rinku Singh for their innings against Delhi Capitals
Even though Rinku tried to sweep Patel’s left-arm spin, he fell victim to Patel’s bowling. Halfheartedly trying to play a slog but not wanting to, Rinku instead whacked it to Lalit Yadav at deep square leg.
Yuvraj criticized the two middle-order batters’ strategies on Twitter. The southpaw didn’t pull any punches when he pointed out that, with all-rounder Andre Russell due to bat, Mandeep and Rinku should have tried to build a safe connection.
Yuvraj’s criticism of Mandeep’s lack of runs is understandable, given that the two had played together for Punjab for years in domestic cricket. Mandeep has played around 100 innings for various clubs in diverse positions in the Indian Premier League over the course of over a decade, but despite his steady performance across forms for Punjab, he hasn’t done due to his promise in the IPL.
