India ODI Squad for Zimbabwe Series: Twitter not happy with Virat Kohli left out

Virat Kohli rested against Zimbabwe: Shikhar Dhawan has been handed over the captaincy in the upcoming Zimbabwe series as BCCI announced the squad for the 3-match bilateral affair that these teams would be dabbling in for the 50-over format. This would be Dhawan’s second consecutive ODI series as a captain after he led India to a fine whitewash of the West Indies.

A few notable names were left out while naming the squad, keeping in mind the approaching Asia Cup and the following T20 World Cup that would shape up a significant narrative for the Men in Blue. However, out of all the notable absentees, Virat Kohli’s absence sparked significant questions as the audience wanted Kohli to be a part of this series.

Other notable names excluded from the squad featured the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami. Washington Sundar was welcomed back to the squad after recovering from an injury while Rahul Tripathi was given another shot to showcase his talent.

Shubman Gill who was awarded the man of the series in the tournament against West Indies was also kept in the side alongside Sanju Samson who has savored decent bursts of brilliance. Ishan Kishan was given the second wicket-keeping spot in the side, even though his primary responsibility will be to slog for the Men in Blue early in the innings.

Here is what Twitter had to say about Virat Kohli being left out of the ODI squad

Virat Kohli hasn’t been at the peak of his form for the last three years and with every passing contest, he is losing his edge further with barely any contribution whatsoever. He is getting those starts but somehow he has failed to convert them into the big knocks that he was known for.

The Indian cricket fans wanted him to be a part of this tournament as that would have allowed him to face considerably weaker opposition which could have given his form back. However, BCCI was firm with their belief that Kohli was to star in the upcoming contests that would see him finding his stride in the biggest stages of all.
