India suffered a 10-wicket thrashing at the hands of England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. The Rohit Sharma-led side after a terrific outing in the group stages yet again failed to handle the pressure and was knocked out of the tournament.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, India wasn’t up to the mark with the bat as they lost wickets at regular intervals and failed to get going. Only Virat Kohli (50) and Hardik Pandya (63) stood tall and played good innings and thanks to that India could manage a total of 168 runs on the board.
With 168 on the board, it was expected that India would give a tough fight but they had no answers to the onslaught by English openers. Alex Hales and Jos Buttler took Indian bowlers to the cleaners and smashed them all over the park for their unbeaten 170 runs stand and made sure that they win the game by 10 wickets.
Following India’s 10-wicket loss in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 against England, they faced a lot of criticism for their performances in the ICC knockouts. They lashed out at them for doing well in the bilateral series and choking out in the big games.
PCB chairman Ramiz Raja on the other hand took a dig at the Indian team after they got knocked out of the tournament. He said that his side has performed well with teams with billion-dollar leagues. Notably, Pakistan after losing two league games and the Netherlands beating South Africa managed to qualify for the semi-final, where they defeated New Zealand to enter the final.
Speaking to reporters Ramiz Raja said: “Billion dollar ki industry waali teams peeche rah gayi hai aur hum upar nikal gaye hai (Teams with billion dollar leagues are falling behind us). We are doing something right.”
