According to the most recent information available on Cricbuzz, Shreyas Iyer has decided to delay surgery on his back ailment for the time being. The skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders will be out for the next IPL 2023 competition, which also makes it unlikely that he will be able to participate in the WTC final on June 7 of that year.

Shreyas Iyer injured his back in the first Test that India played against Australia, but he came back for the next three games. The 28-year-old, though, cited back discomfort as his reason for sitting out of the fourth Test match in Ahmedabad. His back problem flared up again, therefore he missed the ODI series that just finished up.

Shreyas Iyer is not reconsidering back surgery

It is said that the player was urged to reconsider surgery by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru due to the possibility that he might miss the forthcoming 50-over World Cup. The likelihood of him playing in the next IPL season, which begins on March 31, is low, but the board is eager to treat his condition without resorting to surgery.

Cricbuzz reports that the 28-year-old is now in Mumbai after being advised by spine expert Dr Abhay Nene of Mumbai to relax for 10 days before deciding whether or not to have surgery. With the One-Day International World Cup coming up in October/November 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keeping a close check on his position.

The Indian squad missed Iyer during the just-finished ODI series against Australia, in which the Australians broke India’s grip on the bilateral series at home. The team’s new star, Suryakumar Yadav, failed to score in all three games of the series.
