Brian Lara replaces Tom Moody as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2023

Brian Lara worked in the capacity of a strategy consultant for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2022

Former West Indies captain and one of the greatest batsmen of all time, Brian Lara, has taken over as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad after the IPL franchise decided to end its association with the former Australian allrounder Tom Moody, who was the team director and head coach of SRH during the last IPL.

Brian Lara joined the coaching staff of SRH last season itself, but he was only there as a strategy consultant. However, now he has been given the charge of the head coach and it will be interesting to see what changes he brings to the SRH set-up in the next season of IPL.

A lot has happened in the SRH camp in the last couple of seasons, starting from the sacking of David Warner in the middle of IPL 2021 which had caused a lot of controversies. In the very next season, Trevor Bayliss was also relieved from his duties as head coach, and Tom Moody, who was initially the director of cricket, took up the dual role of the head coach and team director.

Brian Lara has never been the head coach of an IPL team in the past

Ahead of the last IPL, the SRH team management had their issues with their star spinner Rashid Khan as well, who was apparently not happy with the amount that was offered to him for retention, and SRH eventually had to let Rashid go. They later signed Washington Sundar as their specialist spinner in the mega auction.

And now, SRH has parted ways with Tom Moody who recently took over as director of cricket for Desert Vipers in the UAE T20 league. The Desert Vipers are owned by the Glazer family who also owns Manchester United football club.

As far as Brian Lara is concerned, he has never been in the head coach position for any IPL team before and this will be his first big gig in the league where he will be making a lot of decisions.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
