AUS-W vs SWE-W: Australia and Sweden have come to a step closer to Olympic Gold as they’ll be facing off against each other in the Semi-Final of the Women’s Olympics Football competition.
In their previous game, Australia Women played against mighty Great Britain. Australia started proceedings with an early lead in the match, courtesy of Alanna Kennedy. The steady start was then imbalanced by a wonderful brace, thanks to Ellen White which got Great Britain in the lead with 2-1.
Sam Kerr was the other goalscorer with an easy goal off an assist to make it 2-2 for Australia. As the match ended in a draw, it was shifted to extra time. Mary Fowler was the lead gainer for Australia with the third goal. It was Kerr yet again to score the fourth goal and keep Australia in the commanding position.
However, a great finish with White was just what Britain wanted but that turned out to be a consolation goal as Australia won by 4-3.
Sweden on the other hand faced hosts Japan in the quarter-finals and gave them a fitting reply. Sweden started with an extremely early goal, courtesy of Eriksson. It wasn’t too long when Japan’s Tanaka scored the equaliser. In the second half, a goal by Blackstenius & a penalty by Asllani gave Sweden the dominant hand and a comfortable victory.
It will be a tough matchup as both teams will battle for a ticket to the Finals.
