Asia Cup 2022 Super 4: Indian cricket team on the verge of breaking all-time Pakistan record

Pakistan had two incredible run of victories in T20 international cricket in 2018 and 2021 respectively

The Indian cricket team is just three wins away from breaking Pakistan’s world record of winning the most number of T20 international matches in a single year. Pakistan was actually occupying the top two positions in terms of winning most T20Is in a year, as they won 17 T20Is in 2018 and 20 T20Is last year in 2021.

But, with an emphatic 40-run victory yesterday, the Indian cricket team crossed Pakistan’s tally of 2018. India has now won a total of 18 T20 internationals this year and if they win three more games in the ongoing Asia Cup, they will create a new world record of winning the most number of T20 internationals in a single year.

Even if India doesn’t manage to get past Pakistan’s tally in the ongoing Asia Cup, they still have a lot of T20I games to play this year. After the Asia Cup 2022, India has to play 6 T20I bilateral matches, 3 each against South Africa and Australia before they head to the T20 World Cup where they will be playing a handful of T20I matches again.

Indian cricket team has a strong chance of breaking Pakistan’s record in the Asia Cup 2022

With the kind of form the Indian cricket team has shown in the ongoing Asia Cup, it would be surprising if they don’t break Pakistan’s world record in this tournament itself because the men in blue are in the super 4 round now where they have to play 3 games and if they end up in top 2 in the points table of super 4, they will play the final of the Asia Cup as well. So potentially, India has 4 more games to play in Asia Cup 2022.

India’s incredible run of victories in T20 internationals started last year itself after Rohit Sharma was given India’s T20I captaincy following a T20 World Cup debacle in UAE. The next series that India played after that was against New Zealand at home and they clean-swept the Kiwis by 3-0. The momentum has continued ever since.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
