“Absolute Legend, But The Player Is Not Suited For That Season”- Kumar Sangakkara Comments On Suresh Raina Going Unsold

Rajasthan Royals‘ Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara has given his opinion on Suresh Raina going unsold at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Sangakkara hailed Raina as an absolute legend of the Indian Premier League, but he felt that the southpaw was probably not suited for the upcoming season, which is why he went unsold.

Suresh Raina, popularly known as Mr. IPL, registered for the mega auction with a base price of INR 2 crore. However, not a single franchise bid for him. Many fans thought that the Chennai Super Kings would re-sign him in the round of unsold players. But much to everyone’s shock, Raina’s name did not come up.

Raina is one of the most successful players in IPL history. He is a former World Cup winner. In fact, he won IPL 2021 with CSK. Thus it was surprising to see him go unsold.

Commenting on Suresh Raina, Kumar Sangakkara said the following during a chat with Red Bull Cricket on the Clubhouse app:

“In the case of Suresh Raina, his reputation is unbelievable in IPL cricket. He has been an absolute legend, one of the best and top-most performers season after season. When you go into granular detail, perhaps the player is not suited for that season.”

Suresh Raina and Kumar Sangakkara played a lot of matches against each other

Suresh Raina and Kumar Sangakkara have both retired from all formats of international cricket. Back when they were active players, they played quite a few international matches against each other. Both were part of their respective nation’s playing XI in the 2011 Cricket World Cup Final.

Also, Raina and Sangakkara went head-to-head in the ICC T20 World Cup 2014 Final. They even played many IPL matches together. Now Sangakkara is the coach of the Rajasthan team, whereas Raina will work as a commentator in IPL 2022.
