Australian batsman David Warner has been an integral part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the Indian Premier League. The left-handed batsman was the captain of the team until yesterday. However, because of SRH’s lackluster performances in the 2021 edition of the IPL, the Hyderabad-based franchise elected Kane Williamson as their new captain.
David Warner joined the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the year 2014, and soon, the Orange Army elected him as their captain. Under Warner’s leadership, the Sunrisers qualified for the playoffs in each of the last five IPL seasons. Also, they won the IPL trophy in the year 2016.
David Warner believed in leading from the front, and the fact that he won three Orange Cap titles while playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team cements the aforementioned claim. So far, Warner has played 93 matches for the 2016 IPL winners, scoring 4,012 runs at a fantastic average of 50.73. His strike rate has also been 142.83.
Tom Moody reveals the reason why David Warner is not playing against Rajasthan Royals
The Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently playing against the Rajasthan Royals in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. Before the toss, SRH Director of Cricket, Tom Moody took part in an interview with the broadcasters, where he confirmed that David Warner was not a part of the playing XI. Here’s what Moody had to say:
“We had to make the hard call – somebody has to miss out and unfortunately it’s him. He’s shocked and disappointed. Anyone would be disappointed. He has come to terms with the logic behind what we want to achieve from a franchise’s perspective. He has rallied around the team and more importantly the team has rallied around him.”
David Warner could not perform up to the mark in IPL 2021. The southpaw played six matches for SRH this season, aggregating 193 runs at a strike rate of 110.29. New captain Kane Williamson has won the toss and elected to field against RR.
