The Delhi Capitals have roped in uncapped Indian player Aniruddha Joshi as the replacement of their captain Shreyas Iyer. Also, the Capitals have signed Shams Mulani as short-term COVID-19 replacement of Axar Patel.
Shreyas Iyer had picked up a shoulder injury while fielding for Team India in an ODI match against England. As a result, he had to undergo surgery, which ruled him out of IPL 2021.
The fans wondered if the Delhi Capitals would assign the team’s reins to Shikhar Dhawan, Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane or Ravichandran Ashwin. However, the DC team management raised a few eyebrows by going with Rishabh Pant as their captain.

On the other side, star Indian all-rounder Axar Patel had tested positive for COVID-19 before the IPL 2021 began. It seems Axar will take some more time before regaining match fitness. Hence, the Capitals have signed Shams Mulani as his short-term replacement.
The meaning of this signing is that once Axar Patel recovers fully, Mulani could be taken out of the squad.
