Even in the last cycle, we saw teams moving on from retained players after just one season. We could witness that again now. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three retained players who could be released before IPL 2026.
1) Rahul Tewatia
Rahul Tewatia occupies one spot on the side just to provide finishing cameos, especially during a chase. It is not his mistake. Gujarat Titans are not utilising him well. Either they give him more responsibilities or find a player who could do that.
2) Ravi Bishnoi is one of the retained players who could be released before IPL 2026
With Digvesh Rathi coming through, LSG could afford this. They need funds to improve their bowling attack. Therefore, one of the three retentions in the bowling department might have to be released. Mayank and Mohsin might get another chance, but Ravi could be released.
3) Shimron Hetmyer
Rajasthan Royals will be desperate to find an upgrade to Hetmyer. With Vaibhav doing well, the Indian core in the batting line-up is stronger. Therefore, RR can focus on the other areas, especially in the bowling department. To arrange funds for the same, they could release the West Indian player.
