It would be a surprise if BCCI does not sanction a Mega Auction before IPL 2025. Interestingly, there are a few players who came in as a replacement signing and could still be retained ahead of a Mega Auction. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three replacement players who could be retained before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
1) Rajat Patidar
Rajat Patidar had a stint at RCB before he was released. He was not picked by anyone in the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. Later, after Luvnith Sisodia got injured, Patidar was called in as the replacement. It was a brilliant season for him as he also scored a century in the playoffs.
While he missed IPL 2023, IPL 2024 was also brilliant for him. With his form in IPL 2024, RCB should retain him, especially because of his spin-hitting skills.
2) Matheesha Pathirana
Pathirana is one of the replacement players who could be retained before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. One of the most obvious retentions is that of Pathirana. He is sure to be on the list for CSK irrespective of any retention policy by BCCI.
Pathirana was picked as the replacement for Adam Milne in IPL 2022. Since then, he has been the lead pacer for CSK. He has done well in various phases and he is all set to be the pace leader for the franchise in the long run.
3) Jake Fraser-McGurk
Jake Fraser-McGurk is also one of the replacement players who could be retained before the IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. It was in IPL 2024 that Delhi Capitals signed him as the replacement for Lungi Ngidi.
Although the Aussie did take some time to get into his groove, he got to top form once he found his footing. Opening the batting, he produced some high-impact knocks. With his age in consideration, surely, DC will be in for retaining him.
