India was expected to produce a cruising win against Sri Lanka in the ODI series. However, without winning a single match, the team lost the series to the hosts. A lot of changes are expected on the ODI side. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players India could drop from the ODI squad after the shock series defeat to Sri Lanka.
1) Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh had a forgettable ODI series in Sri Lanka. With the ball, he could not do well. It was a good chance for him to seal his spot in the ODI side. However, that did not happen.
In the first game, he had to be more aware of the situation. If he had gone for a different shot, India could have won that game. Anyways, India is exploring using Arshdeep in Tests. Hence, it is better to manage his workload, considering he is a starter in T20Is.
2) K Khaleel Ahmed
K Khaleel Ahmed is one of the players India could drop from the ODI squad after the shock series defeat to Sri Lanka. Even after Arshdeep was dropped, the management did not consider including Khaleel in the XI. This shows the kind of confidence the management could be having in the team.
Anyways, in the T20I games, Khaleel could not do his best. Hence, someone like Harshit Rana could get a chance in the next ODI series.
3) Shivam Dube
In a few patches, Shivam Dube did well in the ODI series. However, in the ODI format, you need players who can convert. Unfortunately, Shivam does not look like that cricketer. Anyways, he was in the team only because Hardik Pandya was not available.
Now, India could try to groom someone like Venkatesh Iyer or Nitish Kumar Reddy. Both these players could offer more to the side in the ODI squad.
