The Indian squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe has been announced. No seniors are present in the squad. There are a lot of debutantes. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three Indians lucky to get selected to the squad for the Zimbabwe series. Before that, here is a look at the squad:
Squad: áhubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Tushar Deshpande.
1) Nitish Reddy
Yes, the BCCI might be targeting to groom a backup for Hardik Pandya. However, Nitish Reddy has a very small sample size of performing well in the IPL.
If BCCI really had to prepare a backup, they could have picked someone like Venkatesh Iyer. He is a left-hander and is quite experienced, as well. Nitish can hence consider himself a bit lucky here.
2) Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar is one of the Indians lucky to get selected to the squad for the Zimbabwe series. Sundar, not long ago, was not considered in the SRH playing XI.
India really has a sorted spin attack for the next few years. Sundar has not improved himself as a T20I cricketer in recent years. He also is very fragile when it comes to injuries. Therefore, he is on this list.
3) Dhruv Jurel
Dhruv Jurel did well for India in the Test Matches. However, if the BCCI is considering IPL as the benchmark for T20I selection, Dhruv has some more distance to cover.
The likes of Prabhsimran Singh have been doing well in the recent months. Also, it is not fair to give up on Ishan Kishan right away. Therefore, Jurel can consider himself a bit lucky here.
