The IPL 2024 Trade Window is currently open. While players swap franchises during this time, interestingly, some coaches have also swapped their franchises before the next season. Of course, there is no trade window as such for this and it is all down to the wishes of a franchise and the coach. Usually, no discussion happens between franchises and it is mostly deals agreed between the franchise and the coach who is set to be hired. Here, we take a look at two pairs of franchises that have swapped coaches for IPL 2024.
1) Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals (Lasith Malinga and Shane Bond)
Mumbai Indians announced Lasith Malinga as the new bowling coach recently. A few weeks before that, they had revealed that Shane Bond had left the franchise. It was an interesting phase to see which team Shane Bond would join as he is an experienced coach.
Malinga was earlier the bowling coach at RR. The Jaipur-based franchise announced that Bond would be taking over the role from the Sri Lankan coach. Additionally, Bond will also serve as the assistant coach of the team. It will be a great challenge for the former Kiwi pacer.
2) Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore (Andy Flower and Sridharan Sriram)
LSG and RCB are a part of this list of pairs of franchises that have swapped coaches for IPL 2024. A new rivalry came up in IPL 2023 and that was between LSG and RCB. Interestingly, both the franchises were involved in a coach swap before IPL 2024.
Justin Langer replaced Andy Flower, who was the Head Coach for the last two seasons. Andy has taken over the role of Sanjay Bangar as the Head Coach at RCB. Meanwhile, Sridharan Sriram, who had been the spin-bowling coach for a while at RCB, has become the new assistant coach at LSG.
