Reece Topley was England’s best bowler in the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, he is ruled out of the tournament and England has announced Brydon Carse as the replacement. The defending champions did have plenty of other options and hence, picking Carse was a surprise. Here, we take a look at three players England could have picked as a replacement for Reece Topley instead of Brydon Carse.

1) Will Jacks

England has lacked balance in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The spin department is also not clicking. The big hitters are crumbling under pressure.

Will Jacks would have been an interesting pick for the unit. He is in form and would have added a lot of balance and firepower to the side. His versatility could have also helped England.

2) Jofra Archer

Jofra Archer is one of the players England could have picked as a replacement for Reece Topley instead of Brydon Carse. Jofra has joined the England Team in India.

England just has a few more games to make a comeback. If they get knocked out, it would be a major embarrassment. Hence, they should have taken a risk on Jofra’s fitness, especially because there is no major tournament coming up. Jofra is a game-changer and might have added the desired edge to the bowling attack.

3) Rehan Ahmed

Adil Rashid has not been in great form in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Barring a few games, he has been inconsistent and has hardly looked threatening. For a World Cup in India, the lead spinner must be in the best form for the side.

Hence, England could have taken a bet on Rehan Ahmed. Not many know him and he could have been the surprise factor. England could have also changed a few things by having two leg-spinners in the playing XI. Therefore, the youngster is on the list.
