Alundra Blayze or Madusa, no matter whatever name you would like to call her, she was one of the ‘baddest’ WWE superstar that the Divas ever stayed witness to. She was relentless, she was absolutely vociferous about her own opinions and most importantly she ensured that her fighting skills shook the world.
Before Chyna revolutionized the women’s division, it was Alundra Blayze or Madusa who carried forth the standard of excellence for the WWE Divas. However, despite being a towering personality in the ring, she had a few facts that the world would still love to know about. Here are five facts that you must know about Alundra Blayze or Madusa.
#1 She saw the wee days of Paul Heyman
A talented and yet an underrated stable in wrestling antiquity, the Dangerous Alliance featured the likes of Rick Rude, Steve Austin, Bobby Eaton, Larry Zbyszko, Michael Hayes, Madusa and Paul E as its manager cum leader. She was the only one who conceptualized the fact that one faction may have a woman fighter in it. Albeit WCW not having much of a female fighter and before she could get out of the valet role, she ensured that when she did come to the fore, she came out all guns blazing.
#2 Frayed childhood
She was born as Debrah Ann Miceli and the Italian American star had to go through hell before she could see stardom. Her father abandoned her and her mum had to do all the heavy lifting of the family to provide her with the best. In fact she and her mother also had to survive on the bare minimum sustenance that included food stamps and welfare.
#3 What’s in the name?
Well, being candid, there is a lot in the name and the ring name of Madusa is not an inspiration from the Greek Mythology as most people think. Blayze fought her way to the very top of the ladder from almost nothing and this is why her story is one of the best served motivation narratives in USA. Talking about being forged in USA, she stuck to the name, Madusa that is an abbreviation of Made in USA.
#4 Here’s what Title in the Garbage means
One of the most discussed wrestling events in 1995 is when Alundra Blayze who was fought under the name Madusa and also the WWE Women’s Champion, appeared on an episode of WCW Nitro on December 18th and dumped the belt into the trash. She never wanted to do this though as she loved the title but she was forced to do it because Eric Bischoff had other ideas and this was one of them.
#5 Madusa managed Curt Hennig
Madusa got her first taste of pro-wrestling in the AWA and she went onto win the women’s title in the company. However, in an industry that was male dominated, she went onto become a trailblazer in women’s managers as she managed Curt Hennig who would go onto become future WWE Star and eventually a Hall of Famer.
