Former Australia captain Michael Clarke voiced concerns about Warner’s form on Sky Sports Radio. He pointed out the continued dominance of Broad over Warner and questioned if it was time for Warner to step down.
Warner has previously shared his retirement plans, hoping to end his Test career with a Sydney clash against Pakistan. However, these plans now seem uncertain.
Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, refrained from guaranteeing Warner’s place in the Old Trafford line-up. He acknowledged the difficulty of dropping Marsh but emphasised the need to keep all options open.
Cummins also hinted at the possibility of a full roster with the return of Josh Hazlewood and the likely fitness of Green. In this scenario, Travis Head could replace Warner as opener, a role he executed successfully on the recent India tour when Warner was injured.
Despite these considerations, Marsh doesn’t foresee two all-rounders in the Australian team. Emphasising Green’s importance to the side, he left the final decision to the selectors. This leaves Warner’s fate hanging in the balance as the cricketing world waits to see if his swansong will play out as he had hoped.
