Kolkata Knight Riders are locking horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the ninth match of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and invited Kolkata Knight Riders to bat first. The two-time IPL champions got off to a decent start to the game before they start losing wickets at regular intervals.

KKR’s wicketkeeper-batsman, Rahmanullah Gurbaz provided a splendid platform by scoring 57 off 44 balls including six fours and three hits over the fence.

Shardul Thakur scored his maiden IPL half-century off just 20 balls and drew plaudits for his extraordinary batting display. KKR largely benefitted from Shardul Thakur’s services as the latter turned out to be a game changer for the franchise.

Chennai Super Kings might have made a big mistake by letting go of Shardul Thakur. The four-time IPL champions released Shardul Thakur from the squad ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction and decided not to buy him.

Kolkata Knight Riders acquired the services of Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals as part of the trade which was finalised in the form of an all-cash deal.

Shardul Thakur played the best innings of his IPL career as he scored 68 off just 29 balls where he struck nine boundaries and three hits over the fence at a strike rate of 234.48.
