R Ashwin gestures something to Marnus Labuschagne after outfoxing him with spin and bounce
India and Australia are currently locking horns in the first Test of the four-match series in Nagpur. The visitors won the toss and decided to bat first. However, it wasn’t a fruitful start for them as Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Mohammad Shami bowled impeccable lines and lengths to send Usman Khawaja (1) and David Warner (1) respectively packing for just 2 runs.
But after that Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne has been highly impressive as they steadied the ship and made sure that they build good platforms. They have batted well against the likes of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.
But the battle between Ashwin and Labuschagne has been the standout feature of the game so far. The off-spinner has started playing mind games. Just when the batter looked settled, the pacer came around the wicket and caused trouble.
One incident that caught the attention of many was when during the last ball of the 22nd over. Ashwin bowled delivery on the line of middle and leg stump that spun a lot and beat the defensive inside edge of Labuschagne to rap him on the body.
As soon as Ashwin beat him on turn and bounce, the off-spinner gestured something to the batter, who also in reply said something. Notably, ahead of the game, Labuschagne had said that playing against Ashwin will be like a game of chess.
