“After Sachin, one player I am most excited to see playing for India is….” Sunil Gavaskar names which player amazes him

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has named one player after Sachin Tendulkar which excites him the most playing for India. The batting great choose Jammu and Kashmir pacer Umran Malik as the player who amazes him the most.

Umran Malik’s rise in international cricket 

Termed the ‘exciting prospect’ Umran Malik took the cricket fraternity by storm with his express pace during the IPL 2022. He clocked the second-fastest delivery in the league (157kmph) and also took 21 wickets for his side.

Umran’s impressive show in the tournament earned him a place in the Indian side. He made his debut against Ireland and it was a decent outing for him in the two T20Is as he defend 17 runs in the last over for his side. He then played T20I against England, where he was expensive and since then he has found himself out of the Indian side.

But he made a staggering back in the side during the ODI series against New Zealand, where he hurried the hosts’ batters with his pace and also took crucial wickets for his side. His performance on that tour gave him a nod ahead of many others as a replacement for Mohammad Shami in the ongoing ODI series against Bangladesh.

Umran bowled staggeringly well in the second ODI against Bangladesh as he made batters look clueless and also took two wickets. It’s fair to say that if he continues playing like this, he can have a chance to make it into the World Cup 2023 squad.

Umran’s pacer has made batting great Sunil Gavaskar a fan of him. The former Indian cricketer lavished rich praise on the fast bowler, saying that he’s one player after Sachin Tendulkar who has excited him the most.

Umran Malik will be next seen in action during the third ODI between Bangladesh and India, which will be played on Saturday 10th December.
