Asia Cup 2022: Sharjah pitch report – How does the pitch behave at Sharjah cricket ground?

Sharjah is one of the two venues which will be hosting the games of Asia Cup 2022

Even though Sharjah cricket ground will only host 3 out of the 13 games of Asia Cup 2022, Sharjah pitch report is still important for the team management of all the teams which have to play their games at Sharjah, as this venue presents the challenges of its own for both the batsmen and the bowlers.

The Indian cricket team doesn’t have to play any game at Sharjah cricket ground in Asia Cup 2022, but Pakistan’s second game in the tournament, which they will be playing against a qualifier side Hong Kong, will take place at Sharjah.

Here is the Sharjah pitch report for Asia Cup 2022

The Sharjah pitch report is quite different from that of Dubai. It’s actually a surface which is very slow and low and it keeps getting harder for batting as the game goes on. The teams often like to bat first at this venue because the surface doesn’t get easier even with the dew factor. When the ball starts skidding because of dew at Sharjah, it makes it even more difficult for the batsmen, as the bounce is not there for them to work with.

However, the chief issue with bowling second at Sharjah is that the bowlers might not be able to grip the ball properly if the ball gets wet because of dew. Also, the boundaries are very short at this ground, which is why the chasing team can come into the game at any stage with a flurry of sixes.

The stats at Sharjah are heavily in favor of the teams batting first as they have won 64% of the T20 games at this venue historically. Also, the highest total that has been chased at Sharjah in a T20 international game is only 172, which clearly suggests that despite the short boundaries, chasing is not always easy at Sharjah because of the lack of bounce in the playing surface.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
