7 bowlers to concede 40+ runs the most times in IPL

IPL has become the most competitive cricket league in the world because of the world class quality of the talents that have associated themselves with the league. The traditionalists believed that the IPL will be a batsman dominated game as they do not have to think much about the team like Tests or ODIs.

Although the batsmen need to play with responsibility, it is much lesser as compared to the other two formats. The bowlers are often taken to the cleaners in the league and here’s a look at the top seven bowlers who have ended up conceding 40+ runs in an IPL match for the most times.

Amit Mishra – 14 times

Delhi Capitals’ leg-spinner is the two highest wicket-taker in IPL history. The leg-spinner has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Deccan Chargers in the league. Usually, the batsmen love to attack the leg-spinners. So, it is not much of a surprise that Mishra has conceded more than 40 runs 14 times in his career.

Ishant Sharma – 14 times

Another Delhi Capitals player to feature on this list is the right-arm fast bowler Ishant Sharma. The tall fast bowler has played for many teams in the IPL. The reason why he could not have a long stint with any franchise was his high economy rate. Sharma has conceded runs at an economy rate of more than 10 in 14 matches.

Mitchell Johnson – 15 times

Australian left-arm pace bowler Mitchell Johnson achieved much success while playing for Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. However, sometimes the Aussie was taken to the cleaners by the batsmen as he leaked 40+ runs 15 times in his IPL career.

Lasith Malinga – 15 times

The highest wicket-taker in IPL history Lasith Malinga is the master of defying the batsmen with his variations. However, of late, the batsmen have started picking his deliveries. As a result, the Sri Lankan pacer has leaked 40+ runs 15 times in the IPL history.

DJ Bravo – 16 times

DJ Bravo is not a fast bowler like Malinga or Johnson. However, his variations have helped him become a former Purple Cap winner in the IPL. Bravo has played well for the Chennai Super Kings, but the batsmen have dominated him 16 times and taken 40 or more runs off his bowling spell.

Lakshmipathy Balaji – 16 times

Lakshmipathy Balaji has retired from all forms of the game, but the right-arm medium pacer was a wicket-taking bowler for his team during his prime. However, because of his medium pace, the batsmen could destroy him and took 40+ runs off his bowling 16 times. It is noteworthy that Balaji is the coach of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020.

Umesh Yadav – 17 times

Umesh Yadav tops the list of bowlers to have conceded 40 or more runs most times in the IPL. The Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer could have achieved this dismal record for the 18th time against Kings XI Punjab. However, Virat Kohli did not give him his final over. Yadav was once believed to be the next big thing in the Indian fast bowling attack. However, his inconsistent line and length have not allowed him to realize his full potential.
