The England captain Ben Stokes has opened up on his fight with mental health problems last year and has said that the fact that he kept his emotions within himself for many years resulted in a sudden “explosion” of emotions and put him in a state of trouble.
Amazon will release a documentary featuring Ben Stokes on 26th of August and Stokes was speaking in one of the promotional events of the documentary recently, where he said if someone keeps storing something in a glass bottle for a long period of time, the bottle will eventually reach its limit at some stage and he thought that’s what happened to him last year.
Ben Stokes decided to withdraw himself from the game last year citing his mental health problems and he didn’t really open up a lot on that at that time, but the documentary of Amazon which is named “Phoenix from the Ashes” is expected to show in detail what Stokes actually went through.
Stokes said when he was about to be appointed England test captain recently, some people were saying he wasn’t fit for the job as he had been taking frequent breaks, but him being appointed the captain shows that people can achieve anything even after going through mental health issues.
Watched the Ben Stokes Amazon doc, out later this week, on a big screen tonight. Even better on 2nd viewing. Raw honesty about difficult passages in his life, and some incredible footage of the biggest moments in his career, not least Headingley

Ben Stokes also reflected on the infamous Bristol brawl
Apart from his mental health issues, Stokes talked about a lot of other incidents as well, including the one where he was involved in a fist fight in Bristol and had to go through legal proceedings after that.
According to Stokes, that incident is not something that has gone away from his life because he will have to provide an explanation to his kids why he got involved in that kind of a situation. He knows his kids would be asked about that incident by the other people when they grow up.
Not surprising at all as it’s @benstokes38 but his Movie with @primevideosport is utterly honest & a must see .. Brilliantly made by @WeAreWhisperTV ..
