The emerging young Indian batsman Shubman Gill has revealed that his dad was not very happy about the fact that he threw away a good start in the second ODI against Zimbabwe and he gave him a “a bit of a schooling” after the game, which motivated him to go big in the third game of the series.
Shubman Gill scored his first international century in the third ODI against Zimbabwe and he dedicated the knock to his dad in the post match presentation ceremony. Gill’s hundred eventually proved to be a match winning one for India, even though Zimbabwe gave the men in blue a slight scare at the end.
Apart from Shubman Gill, no Indian batsman was able to strike it even at the rate of a run a ball on a pitch which was not easy for batting, but Gill’s knock came at a strike rate of more than 130 and he timed the ball quite smoothly as if it was a flat batting surface, which it wasn’t.
Gill came on to bat at no. 3 after the Indian opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and the captain KL Rahul had got off to a slow start, but not only he got India’s run rate back on track, he also kept accelerating as his innings went along. If not for Gill, India would have struggled to get anywhere close to 300.

Hundred of Shubman Gill was the difference between two sides in the third ODI in Harare
The way Sikandar Raza batted later and the way Zimbabwe came very, very close to India’s total, one would say that Gill’s innings was the difference between the two sides.
While Shubman Gill was visibly ecstatic in the post match presentation having won his second player of the series award on the trot, he was also a bit relieved getting his first international century out of the way and he called his dad the source of motivation behind that.
