Ravi Shastri recalls how Rohit Sharma reacted after he couldn’t get his name on Lord’s honors board last year

Ravi Shastri was the head coach of the Indian team during their last year's tour of England

The former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has shared a story about Rohit Sharma and how keen he is to get his name on the Lord’s honors board.

Lord’s is one of the oldest grounds in the game of cricket and since the origination of MCC happened here, which formulated the rulebook of the game, Lord’s is also called the home of cricket.

There is an honor board up in the long room of Lord’s where the name of every cricketer, who either scores a hundred or grabs a 5-wicket haul, gets imprinted.

Although Rohit Sharma is one of the greats of the game, one feather that’s probably missing from his cap and something that he wants to add to his cap is the implantation of his name on the Lord’s honors board and Ravi Shastri, having been very close to him past few years, knows it.

Ravi Shastri, while on air during the second ODI between India and England, recalled that Rohit was batting on 80 odd in the Lord’s test match last year and was looking all set to score his first overseas test match hundred, but against the run of play, he ended up chopping one onto his stumps and got dismissed.

Rohit was dejected after missing a Lord’s hundred last year: Ravi Shastri

According to Shastri, when Rohit got back to the dressing room, he was very gutted with himself and he sat in a corner for quite some time before moving on from that dismissal and that’s because he didn’t want to miss the opportunity to get his name up on the Lord’s honors board.

Rohit had the opportunity yesterday as well, as the second ODI between India and England was also held at Lord’s, but Rohit got out very early in the game and couldn’t even open his scoring account. India eventually lost the game and the ODI series got leveled 1-1 before the third and final ODI on Sunday.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
