“Not thinking about it”, Bhuvneshwar Kumar makes it clear about his plans for Test cricket

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is one player who has been in terrific form in the last few months. The pacer struggled a lot due to injury and after making a comeback, he had issues with his form, too. A few people even called out for his exclusion from the squad. However, he has been consistently winning matches for India off-late and looks set for a longer stint in the squad. In the form that he is in, there is also a discussion about his involvement in Test cricket. Bhuvi himself reacted to the same. After the second T20I against England, responding to a query, Bhuvneshwar Kumar made it clear about his plans for Test cricket.

The Test team is in need of a genuine swing bowler

The Indian bowling attack in Tests is one of the best in the game at the moment. They have been picking 20 wickets in a game regularly and this has been one of the main reasons for India’s dominance in the format.

However, if you take a look at the combination of the bowling attack, a bit of variety would make the set-up more dangerous. While a left-arm seamer would be high on the agenda, Team India would also need a genuine swing bowler who can make use of the new ball to the maximum effect at the start of an innings.

Bhuvi last played a Test back in 2018 against South Africa. Since then, with the injuries coming in, the Uttar Pradesh man has been restricted to the shorter formats. The status is the same even now.

In response to a query about his plans for Test, the in-form cricketer said, “If I get an opportunity in Test cricket in the future, I wouldn’t say no, but currently I’m not thinking about it”. If Bhuvi can retain his fitness, he would be a great addition to the Test squad at No.8. He also is a decent hand with the bat and would improve the overall balance of the unit. However, the final decision would rest with the player.
