“I have to mention that special delivery, it was really special,” Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson showers praise on Ravichandran Ashwin

Rajasthan Royals have now won 4 out of the 6 games they have played in IPL 2022

The Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was full of praise for his veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for the special delivery that he bowled to KKR’s most dangerous batsman Andre Russell in the game last night.

When Andre Russell walked out to bat for KKR, the game was fully in control of the chasing team and with one side of the ground significantly shorter than the other, Russell could have got the job done with a few big hits, but that didn’t happen because Ashwin knocked Russell over straightaway with a wonderfully disguised carrom ball.

Ravichandran Ashwin has been bowling a lot of carrom balls in IPL 2022, but Russell, as he was facing his first ball from Ashwin, thought that Ashwin would bowl an off-spinner from over the wicket and that’s why he played inside the line of the ball.

But, it was actually a carrom ball which Russell didn’t pick at all. The ball left Russell after pitching, rather than coming into him as an off-spinner and he was cleaned up as the Royals earned a major breakthrough.

Ashwin’s delivery is worth a mention because of how special it was: Sanju Samson

Although Jos Buttler, who scored a hundred, and Yuzvendra Chahal, who secured a 5-wicket haul, were the two main heroes of the Royals victory over KKR, but Sanju Samson made sure that he mentioned Ashwin’s special delivery to Russell when he had the chance to speak in the post match presentation ceremony.

According to Sanju Samson, the whole world is aware of and has seen what Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal have done in this tournament, but the delivery that Ashwin bowled to Russell, it deserves a special mention on its own because of how special and magical it was and how it pushed the opposition behind in the game.

KKR lost the game by 7 runs at the end in their pursuit of a huge chase of 218 runs.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
