Former Chennai Super Kings Star Suresh Raina Says MS Dhoni Will Forever Be The Captain

Suresh Raina played for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL from 2008 to 2015 and then from 2018 to 2021. However, CSK did not retain him ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. They did not bid for him at the mega auction. Even the other franchises did not raise the peddle when Raina’s name came up at the auction.

It was surprising to see Suresh Raina go unsold because when he was an active player, he earned the nickname of Mr. IPL with his fantastic performances. Recently, Ravi Shastri said that when he was on commentary before, Raina’s 25-ball 87 against the Punjab Kings was the best knock for him in IPL.

MS Dhoni stepped down as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings team recently as he assigned the reins of the team to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Although Dhoni is no longer the CSK skipper, former Chennai Super Kings player Suresh Raina said on the pre-show of Star Sports:

“MS Dhoni will be our captain forever.”

Can’t think of anyone better than Ravindra Jadeja to captain Chennai Super Kings: Suresh Raina

While Raina said that Dhoni will forever be the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, he also mentioned that Ravindra Jadeja was the best player to lead the Chennai-based franchise after Dhoni stepped down.

“Absolutely thrilled for my brother. I can’t think of anyone better to take over the reins of a franchise we both had grown up in. All the best @imjadeja,” Raina tweeted after the big announcement. 

For the first time in the Indian Premier League, the Chennai Super Kings team is playing a match, and Suresh Raina is sitting in the commentary box. He is one of the Hindi commentators for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League which began earlier today in Mumbai. CSK and KKR are battling each other in the opening game.
